The AirTrack scheme concept, upon which studies undertaken by the AirTrack Forum were based, were for three services to/from Terminal 5 at Heathrow, all running every 30 minutes in each direction with the following stops and journey times:

  • London Waterloo, with stops at Clapham Junction, Richmond, Twickenham, Feltham and Staines. Journey time approx 40 minutes.
  • Guildford, with stops at Woking, Chertsey and Staines. Journey time approx 36 minutes.
  • Reading, with stops at Wokingham, Bracknell and Staines. Journey time approx 45 minutes.

This projected service pattern is largely reflected in the "Heathrow Airtrack" scheme formulated by BAA/HAL (Heathrow Airport Ltd) and the subject of an application, submitted in July 2009, to the Secretary of State for Transport for an order under the Transport and Works Act 1992; seeking powers to construct, maintain and operate the railway.

Following public consultation undertaken in 2008, these detailed proposals no longer include a new station at Staines High Street (see infrastructure requirements), so the stops at Staines on the Guildford and Reading legs of the Heathrow Airtrack services do not form part of the current plans.

However, the Heathrow Airtrack application includes provision for redevelopment of the existing Staines station and other necessary infrastructure to allow selected Heathrow Express services to extend beyond Heathrow to serve Staines, in addition to the service provided by Heathrow Airtrack trains. Full details of the Heathrow Airtrack proposals can be found via BAA's Heathrow Airtrack web page.
